A Brief History of the Colindale Area
The area remained without buildings, aside from few exceptions of houses and cottages, until the 20th century. That is when Colindale began to grow. The British Museum’s depository for newspaper collection and Hendon Aerodrome and Police College where constructed around the time when Colindale developed. Enjoy great brunch accompanied by coffee, just around the corner from The Stay Club Colindale. ITJL offers a varied menu with a range of options from fish and chips to grilled chicken kebab. Neighbouring Spaccanapoli is also one of our The Stay Club’s partners, with a range of Italian dishes and a specialty on pizzas! Traditional pub menus can be found around the area. Transport in Colindale
Colindale benefits from easy access to most of North London, as well as parts of Central London! A variety of bus stops accommodate North London areas among others, and they can be found on Edgware Road (a short walk from our residence). There are also some located outside of the area’s main tube station.
The Colindale tube station is situated less than a minute from The Stay Club Colindale’s entrance, and it will take you to beautiful Primrose Hill and popular Camden Town in 16 minutes! From Camden Town onwards, the Northern Line provides access to a variety of Central London areas and stations. At Euston and King’s Cross stations you can hop on national and international trains. You also have access to links for a number of other tube and overground lines.
On the Northern Line, you can either move via the Charing Cross branch and discover vibrant Leicester Square and quirky Covent Garden, or end up at one end of Oxford Street by reaching Tottenham Court Road. The Bank branch of the Northern Line will take you to the heart of artistic East London through Old Street, or to the cute neighbourhood of Angel. There, you can easily take the towpath and explore Regent’s Canal.
Colindale’s easy access to the Northern Line means great connectivity with Central London even during weekends, as the Northern Line offers a 24-hour service on Fridays and Saturdays, accommodating your student nights out!
Open Spaces in Colindale
Whether taking a walk is frequent for you, or if morning jogs are part of your daily routine, then you’ll be glad to discover Colindale has a number of open spaces! From the moment you exit Colindale tube station you will come across Colindale Park, a lovely neighbourhood space. A short walk from there is Rushgrove Park, a wonderful park filled with trees and boasting basketball and tennis courts. Its walking paths are also great for those that want a break surrounded by greenery!
Silkstream Park sits on the opposite side of the Colindale area, close to Burnt Oak tube station and offers surroundings filled with greenery, and a silkstream complete with bridges and wildflower planting to browse through. The park is ideal for a relaxing weekend picknick, or a calming walk to rid yourself of the week’s stress.
