Why Young People Feel Lonelier Than Ever and How The Stay Club Builds Community in London Student Accommodation
Recent research from Mintel and other wellbeing organisations has highlighted an important trend: young people are now more likely to experience loneliness than any other age group. Despite being constantly connected online, many students and young adults report feeling isolated or unsure how to build meaningful connections in real life.
In fact, studies show that almost one in ten people aged 16–29 say they “often or always” feel lonely — a higher percentage than any older age group. Financial pressures, frequent relocations, and an over-reliance on digital communication all contribute to this growing sense of disconnection.
If you’re a student living in London student accommodation, it’s completely normal to feel this way. Moving to a new city, juggling studies, budgeting, and building a social life can be overwhelming. But the good news is — you’re not alone.
The Stay Club: Fostering a Sense of Community
At The Stay Club, we understand that connection goes far beyond sharing a building. We’re proud to foster a strong sense of community across all our campuses, creating a home where students feel supported and included.
Our events team curates a fun and engaging calendar of activities each semester, from lively welcome parties for freshers to unforgettable end-of-term celebrations. These events are designed to help residents make new friends, unwind, and enjoy the best of student life in London.
Not into big crowds? We’ve got you covered. Every week, we host smaller, cosy events where you can meet others in a relaxed environment, no pressure, just good company. Try your hand at a new hobby like painting or even tattoo design (on a dummy hand!), or simply drop by to connect with other students from your campus or other Stay Club locations.
